This tool is part of Pro
See your cover on a 3D paperback at its real size and spine width, and save a picture for your launch. It opens when Pro launches. Until then, these free tools do part of the job:
How to use it
- 1
Enter your book
Pick your book size, page count and paper. They set the size of the book and the thickness of the spine.
- 2
Add your cover
Choose the same full cover PDF, JPG or PNG you upload to KDP. It stays on your computer.
- 3
Turn and save
Drag to turn the book, or jump to the front, spine or back. Download a PNG with a see-through background.
A mockup at your book’s real size
Most mockup tools put your front cover on a generic book. This one uses your whole KDP cover file, so you see the spine and back cover too, at the exact proportions KDP will print: your trim size for the front and back, and your spine width for the thickness.
Check the spine before you print
The spine is the part of a cover that is easiest to get wrong and hardest to judge on a flat file. Turn the book to see whether the spine title is centred, whether the back cover colour carries round the spine, and whether anything from the front cover has crept onto it. If the spine looks off, the cover checker tells you by how much.
Use it for your launch
Download a PNG of any view with a see-through background, for your website, social posts, ads or your Amazon A+ content. Turn the book to an angle that shows the spine for the most realistic look.
Questions and answers
Is the 3D book mockup free?
The 3D book mockup is part of Pro, coming soon, with no watermark on the pictures. Until then, the free cover checker shows your cover flat, with KDP’s guides drawn on it.
Why does it need my page count?
The thickness of the book is the spine width: page count × paper thickness. A 200-page book on white paper is 0.45 in thick, so the mockup looks like your real book, not a generic one.
What file do I use?
Your full cover: back cover, spine and front cover in one file, with bleed, exactly as you upload it to KDP. A PDF, JPG or PNG works. If you only have the front cover, make the full cover first with our cover template.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. Drag the book sideways with your finger to turn it, and scroll the page up and down as normal.
Can I use the picture to promote my book?
Yes. The PNG is yours to use anywhere: your website, social media, ads or a launch email. It has a see-through background so you can place it on any colour.
Is my cover uploaded?
No. The 3D book is drawn by your own browser, on your own computer. Nothing is sent anywhere.
